I Have To Share This
I’ve learned a lot through releasing our new song Seen God. I made a few key mistakes in our paid promotional strategies that delayed the effectiveness of the launch, but I learned something very cool in the process. By the end of the day Seen God will have been listened to or viewed between 2000-2500 times! Even with the mistakes that I made this has been the biggest release week we have had. All of the promotions are just now kicking in today. What started as a disappointment the day of the launch became a blessing, because we now know that those streams came in large part because of you and people like you who shared the song organically. Thank you sooo much!
The Human Algorithm
(Warning: You are about to see my geek-out side.)
The release mistakes also brought something more important to our attention. Algorithms aren’t always our friend. I wrote this particular song to point people to the reality that Jesus is our resurrected Lord. In a world without hope, He alone is our hope. Everyone needs to experience God’s mercy, forgiveness, and unmerited favor. Everyone is looking for redemption, and Jesus is the intersection where our brokenness meets divine restoration. This song isn’t pushy, but I do believe it is revealing and eye opening. I believe it is a perfect song to send to those who don’t know Jesus or are out living in the far country and need to come home. If you are a Christian that likes Christian music the algorithm and promotions will most likely share it with you. Joanna and I are Gospel Artists. I’m not ashamed of this, but this means we have been categorized to reach a primarily Christian audience. On one hand, this is good news because I wrote it to encourage believers, but if it is to get outside of our bubble (which is primarily what we are called to do) it will happen through our human algorithm. Computer programmed algorithms share music based on logic, but faith often defies logic. This means that the people who need to hear this song the most will probably hear it because of your decision to break the normal code and share it with someone you love that falls outside of the machine learning parameters. (Geek language ends here-lol.)
We’ve been singing this song for live groups since around 2010 and have heard people who don’t believe the same things as us share how meaningful it was to them. We personally, along with other supporters, have invested a lot into this production to make sure you could share it not only because it has a Christian message, but because it is a great production of a meaningful song, and hopefully even a life-changing song for listeners. We ultimately hope that the music we make helps you make disciples so if this song moves you we want to ask you to share the love before you scroll on.
Thank you for reading!
